Rule 9: Snitches get stitches

Posted on January 19, 2024January 19, 2024 by Duncan Zaves

Everyone slips up from time to time and engages in some office gossip. However, a Pro knows that there are things you simply don’t talk about or you risk people never trusting you again. That is very bad for your career, as your ability to get useful information will be severely compromised.

What shouldn’t you ever talk about? Well – exactly what everyone typically talks about. These are the 7 Deadly Snitchings

Whence thou art told such a secret, thou shalt utter nary a word, lest thy fancy a vindicative comeuppance.

The 7 Deadly Snitchings:

  • Lust: “I’m fucking a co-worker.”
  • Gluttony: “I got so drunk that I hit on the vendor’s wife and puked on her shoes.”
  • Greed: “I’m looking around for another job.”
  • Wrath: “I got arrested and need you to bail me out.”
  • Sloth: “I called in sick, but I was really just fucking around all day.”
  • Envy: “I just saw this crazy spreadsheet. Did you know Susan makes 175K!”
  • Pride: “John just got let go but no one knows yet.”

Exception: The Rule of 3
A secret known to 3 or more, is no longer a secret – and no longer falls under the protection of Rule 9.
